Nothing as a Leadership Practice

When was the last time you said that I did nothing!

Precisely, when we feltlike doing anything as a leader? Our lives are getting busier in these uncertain & volatile times. You are constantly working, even when it’s time to sleep, we think about our next day’s priorities. You hardly have time to take a pause and society considers doing nothing is a waste of time. People believe that “doing nothing” is a sort of weakness. They constantly feel the need to be busy.

But “Nothingness” is a powerful practice to evolve you as a better leader and be with your own self. It’s not similar to taking breaks from work. You engage yourself with other activities on break, which means you are not idle. Nothingness means allowing yourself to discharge before you recharge. It gives you more control over your emotions.

Doing nothing might create a fear of loss of control or fear of what other people will say. Nothingness gives. Still, it gives space and freedom, raises self-awareness and brings clarity and direction.

It is a very conscious & deliberate practice in mindfulness to be still and present in the moment physically, emotionally and mentally.

You need to reflect upon the following question to test the same.

  1. When was the last time you really did nothing? How did it make you feel?
  2. How can you create time & space for nothingness as a practice?
