Now, students want to test the limit by going deep er and the instructor faces the dilemma of whether to take them deeper or not even if students are pursuing to take the chance. Still, the instructor doesn't allow them to dive further deeper because he hasn't tested the depth and doesn't know about the water pressure and oxygen there A great leader always mentors the team to grow and succeed.   During my sailing days, I worked on different kinds of ships where I learned the stopping a ship can be a crucial task as they don’t have wheels or brakes like a car or a bike. Ships have the main engine which controls the propeller located in the rear end of a ship which provides a thrust and propels the ship ahead of time on turning. So you need to stop them from ship   First, you need to cut off the fuel supply to the main engine, even then the propeller continues to move due to the momentum in water which makes the ship move ahead   Eventually, it stops after covering some distance, called the stopping distance. Every ship possesses a unique stopping distance, ranging from 1-3 nautical miles!! As a Captain, I had to know the stopping distance of my ship very well, else I ran the risk of not being able to stop the ship in time and at the right point.   Why am I telling you this?   A good leader must know when to start new things als...

Life and management lessons from the world of ART

There must be a point in our childhood which carried vivid and messier imagination with colors that expressed or defined us freely without any hesitation or rules or styles. Then what made us apart from colors as we grew up? Why did become more conscious about every move we make and what others would say? My journey with art began with my elder son showing interest in drawing and we enrolled him into weekend art classes. His teacher was a reputed artist with an innate ability to connect with kids and help them discover the artist within themselves. Given to the curiosity, I walked into my son's class while dropping my son off to his art classes, and to my surprise that the class was a milieu of people across the age spectrum at different stages of learning. So here are some musings from the world of art which I enrolled to spend time to and how they have changed the way I look at life : Finding the problem– We are rising as solution-oriented instead of looking for the source ...

Imagine that you are a shallow water scuba diving instructor You are taking your students for their final diving class You put up the gear, you give the instructions… And you  dive  with the group 10 feet... 20 feet... 30 feet...   30 feet was the depth you had in mind for the class But since it’s the last class, your students want to go deeper You oblige You go further deep 40 feet... 50 feet... You reach 60 feet!! That’s the maximum you have gone personally as a diver and as an instructor But your students want more They are enjoying the experience They urge you to go deeper You are in a dilemma…. “Should I take them deeper even though I have never gone that deep?” Your students insist They are ready to take the chance Can you take them really that deeper?
