Life and management lessons from the world of ART
There must be a point in our childhood which carried vivid and messier imagination with colors that expressed or defined us freely without any hesitation or rules or styles. Then what made us apart from colors as we grew up? Why did become more conscious about every move we make and what others would say?
My journey with art began with my elder son showing interest in
drawing and we enrolled him into weekend art classes. His teacher was a reputed
artist with an innate ability to connect with kids and help them discover the
artist within themselves. Given to the curiosity, I walked into my son's class
while dropping my son off to his art classes, and to my surprise that the class
was a milieu of people across the age spectrum at different stages of learning.
So here are some musings from the world of art which I enrolled to spend time
to and how they have changed the way I look at life :
Finding the problem–
We are rising as solution-oriented instead of looking for the
source of the problem. Art can help in finding the problem before you go on the
solution-finding mission. As sometimes, the painting doesn’t appear right or
something great is missing or it may appear with different perspectives with
different angles and can help find the missing dimension.
Lesson – Don’t worry about solving a problem. First try to
understand the problem better using different perspectives, before attempting
to solve it
Its OK to make mistakes -
Every stroke of the brush comes with a new effect. While in
school, we were taught to be particular about various factors. Now, it’s fine
for colors to splash out, not to adhere to strict rules, and have random brush
strokes. As every time, it may come up with something unique and another
dimension to the entire artwork.
Lesson- It’s OK to make mistakes. There is no right or wrong in
this world. It's all about perspective. Every so-called mistake also adds to
your experience and life skills, so don’t be afraid to do something beyond the
conventions
Balance and subtlety -
Art demands the balance of colors, tone and texture. The same
goes with life and our personalities. The wheel of life demands a balance in
different dimensions in our lives – study, work, family, friends, society,
health and so on. Sometimes, a subtle change can create a huge difference in
the way people perceive us e.g. a subtle change in the way we talk to people
can bring a totally different dimension of our personality on the forefront.
Lesson– Never underestimate the importance of balance and
subtlety in our lives
End goals may change
We get his freedom to decide when our piece of art is complete
although it might be different from what I expected originally. In life, we
experience similar about goals and milestones.
Lesson – Wherever you are in life, its perfect and that’s where
you are supposed to be. Enjoy the journey and don’t worry too much about the
goals. You and only you have the power to decide the course of your life and
where you want to be.
