Are you afraid of success

  I was having a coaching call with a client recently She is a senior leader within the tech industry and was being lined up for a promotion to a global role “I am very excited”  she said  “It is like a dream come true!” And then she paused.... “But I am scared”  she said hesitantly  “It is a huge responsibility. It is a big role” She continued,  “What happens if I do not succeed?” The incumbent leader, whose position she was taking, had done an excellent job And now, she was afraid whether she will be able to fill in those shoes or not She was scared to step into her new power “If I am not able to do justice to this new role, it will impact my credibility, my reputation and all the hard work I have put in over past so many years”  she said You see…. When we see successful leaders, we only see the success, the aura, the fame But the truth is.. Success can sometimes be intimidating Success can create all forms of fear and doubts ..Fear of failure ..Fear...

Demystifying Cost Of Inaction

  Imagine you wake up one morning with a slight toothache Initially, the pain is bearable, so you ignore it and continue with your life A few days pass by.... Now, it starts paining more You find it difficult to eat or talk, but you still do not do anything about it A few more days pass by.... Now, the pain becomes unbearable And you finally visit a dentist, after suffering for several days The dentist advises a costly procedure and lots of medicine You have no choice but to undergo the procedure Eventually, the pain subsides after a few days You see what happened ? You only took action when the pain became unbearable and you ended up paying a huge cost This is known as the COST OF INACTION (COI) Imagine if you had NOT ignored the pain and taken care of it earlier Maybe visited the dentist before ?   Last week, I delivered a program on  Delivering Effective Feedback  for the leadership team of one of my clients Now this is usually the time of annual performance appraisals in most organizations and as such, these programs are in demand However, what I do differently in these training sessions is that I actually start with a session on  How to receive feedback I feel that this is very important, as if you do not know  how to receive feedback , you will not know  how people feel and react , when you deliver feedback to your team members So today, I want to talk about how you can get better in receiving feedback   1.  First things first Most people believe that feedback is positive or negative But the truth is.... Having a backup plan RUINS EVERYTHING…..

  I left shipping in 2009 to pursue the next phase of my career Some of you may recollect that 2009 was the midst of sub-prime mortgage crisis Probably the biggest financial crisis the world had ever seen Almost everyone, including my family, thought it was a foolish decision Leaving a well-paying, well-settled job during the peak of an economic crisis Was it a big risk ?  Yes, it was ! Was it scary ? Hell YES ! It was scary and it was crazy !! Self Awareness is NOT enough

  Recently, I was delivering a program on Emotional Intelligence for the leaders of a financial institution One of the sessions was on Self-awareness, which is one of the foundations of being a high EQ header We did a few experiential activities during the session and there was a lot of engagement from the participants Most of them came into the session with a pre-conceived notion that they are highly self-aware And that’s the first challenge….
